I have almost lived half of my life with HIV without anti-retrovirus treatment. I was diagnosed when the only drug out was AZT and my friends were dying left and right. At 22 I thought my life was over. I think the deciding moment for me was when a director of an HIV agency in Orlando Florida called Hope and Help, that I worked for looked at me and said "Ken your positive, you might as well stay that way", I am eternally greatful to this man, because that was when my attitude changed. I contribute my survival to my attitude and good genes. We lost that man who helped me through such a difficult time just three years after that moment, that moment that meant so much to my life.I have and will continue to work in HIV for as long as I have breath in my body to help others survive and help those who are negative for HIV remain negative.
