The Rules Of Human Nature

Rules To Live ByRecently I came across something I felt is truly worth sharing. I had never seen or read it before.

“The 10 Rules For Being Human”.  I wanted to see where these came from and as far as I can tell, they were originally written by Dr.Cherie Carter-Scott. Very wise words.

Being human is not always easy. I have often said that although we each live very unique lives, the process of the human experience is the same for us all. We all bleed red. We all fear. We all have good times and bad. We each live our lives according to the choices that we make every day. The choices produce the results we live tomorrow. It’s simple really.

I truly believe the people are intrinsically good. We are all born that way.

However our environments and our role models among a host of other factors growing up help determine the path we will ultimately follow. That having been said, I also know in my heart that we, as people, can change. When we want too and are ready and willing to do so.  Limited only by our own thoughts. I have seen miracles take place in people’s lives when they make up their minds to follow a different path, try new things and expand the horizons they seek. When you want something bad enough, no matter what that may be, you’ll get it eventually. Regardless, of the weather that mission is good for us or not. That’s why your mother always told you to be careful for what you wish for. Because you just might get it.

Here’s what Cherie came up with, and I’d have to say that for the most part I agree.

1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it’s yours to keep for the entire period.
2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called, “life.”
3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial, error, and experimentation. The “failed” experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiments that ultimately “work.”
4. Lessons are repeated until they are learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.
5. Learning lessons does not end. There’s no part of life that doesn’t contain its lessons. If you’re alive, that means there are still lessons to be learned.
6. “There” is no better a place than “here.” When your “there” has become a “here”, you will simply obtain another “there” that will again look better than “here.”

Do You Always Follow The Rules?

7. Other people are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself.
8. What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.
9. Your answers lie within you. The answers to life’s questions lie within you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.
10. You will forget all this.

I would love to know your own thoughts on this. Feel free to post a comment below. What rules do you live by? What rules would you add to this list? Let us know.

  1. Very nicely done, Steven.

#10 was a bit of a surprise. lol

I think I would add one thing, possibly replace #6.

    6. Many things will seem important as you progress through your lessons – but only one thing truly is – LOVE.

    Good job!

  2. Thank you Lynne, I think number 10 is the one people forget the most. :)
I’m grateful you took the time to write a post. Thank you. Steven
