Spiritual Laws

Deepak Chopra

I recently asked Deepak Chopra a very interesting question. His answer hit home with me on such a very profound level that I nearly fell out of my socks. I asked him a question that I myself have been searching for it’s answer over the course of many years. It’s something I have thought about quite a bit in my own life.

We all live a very busy life. Some have children running around, some have several jobs to contend with and others have parents that are getting older and are needing care or maybe siblings who need our guidance. Then there are the technological gadgets that we strap to ourselves, like our cell phones for example that never seems to stop ringing, buzzing and needing our constant attention. All while trying to maintain the relationships in our lives, which themselves can seem like a full time job at times.

Our lives can become overwhelming. No matter who you are. No matter what you do or have to contend with. Life can swing out of control if we allow it to happen. So the thought occurred to me, if our lives can sway out of balance, how does someone like Dr.Chopra keep it all together.

I decided to ask him.

My question was simple: “How do you find balance in your life with all that is going on?”

Think about it. He’s a very well educated man. You can hardly turn on the TV without seeing him on some popular program. An amazing author who has written more books (most of which I have actually read) then I can recall and he has a schedule that would make most people pass out of sheer exhaustion after the first couple of weeks.

Of course, I expected Deepak to go into some highly technical explanation of the art of keeping one’s self balanced and how we should go about this or that and… “here are the five rules you must follow”… but, that is not what he said. I was shocked.

He simply said to me: “By remaining a silent witness in the midst of activity.”

Wisdom.

I finally understood.
I know truth when I hear it. I could feel it resinating within my soul.

How simple, yet how true. While all is in kayos around you, simply choose to be the silent witness from within and be secure in the wisdom of uncertainty.

We make life complex. Life itself is simple.

As Deepak so elegantly describes in one of my favorite books of all time: The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams

“Grass doesn’t try to grow, it just grows. Fish don’t try to swim, they just swim…”

Lao Tzu once said: “An integral being knows without going, sees without looking, and accomplishes without doing.”

It takes some time and personal reflection to truly understand the meaning of these words, but when you get it, it can truly change your life.

Steve it is a very simple and yet profound answer, the challange is how to reach it.

I also read that book and found it’s wisdom very profound. I am not a “fan” of Chopra per say. I do think the universal laws he teaches in that book are things we all should learn to live by. Just my opinion. I am reading another one of his books right now.

  3. Aleyda,
The answer is also simple, through silence, stillness and breathing. That is the only possible way. We must learn to connect with ourself from deep within. This can only be accomplished with stillness. Though I realize this is very difficult for most people to do, which is the very reason more people aren’t able to “remain a silent witness in the midst of activity”.
thank you so much for your honest comments.
