Great conversations! Steven has coached me for several months now on how best to communicate with the man in my life. The results have been outstanding! I am now able to be honest AND deliver what I’m feeling in a way that was well received. He even commented on how much he appreciated my gentle, thoughtful approach. Steven also recommended several great books that helped me understand personality types. I’m so impressed with this service and it’s really helped me because it’s not face to face and that works best for me. It’s the reason I don’t like regular therapy. I’m really shy, And was embarrassed that I might cry on the phone with you, because I cried when I saw your email in response to mine. I can’t believe that you answered me. Thank you again. And please never misinterpret my opinionation when it comes to ideas as closed-mindedness, smugness, confidence (unfortunately), or testing your reliability or knowledge. I trusted you the first time I read about you. I’ve never had much luck with most doctors, as they haven’t experienced what I have. I take their knowledge and treatment ideas into consideration and apply them fully and comprehensively. I even write extremely comprehensive essays, blogs, articles, and poetry; which have apparently helped a lot of people… but I haven’t been able to really help myself. That’s why I reached out to you. So I’m actually being open right now, which is very hard, and asking you for more help. I really enjoyed our conversation last night. I have been thinking about it all day.
I’m not expecting one-sided miracles. I know very well how hard it is and what effort needs to be put in. Your NOT being a doctor is why I connected with you. “Magic pills” robbed me of most emotion, passion, physical health, and personality from when I was 11 until about a moth and a half ago. I have always ached with deep empathy, love, and longing, but couldn’t understand social skills, anger, illogical reasoning, or unwillingness to learn. I am trying very hard now to get it all back, and everything is very intense, but amazing at the same time. I just need to learn how to control the anxiety that haunts every aspect of my life. The skills you have taught me have helped and surprisingly I understand things from a perspective I have never known. You are an amazing individual and I thank you for talking to me at length as you have. Most people can’t put up with my rants for very long, but you actually seems to understand where I am coming from and that alone has bonded us. I am grateful for the connection.

Wow… this was an amazing call for me. Steven’s advice was clear. His feedback was that I was behaving appropriately (“better than most”). I valued hearing this. I’m in a tough personal situation and feel very confused about how to respond. Towards the end of the call, I asked him to describe how this type of situation usually turns out for the 100s of others with whom he had a similar discussion. I really appreciated knowing that there was much reason to be hopeful and to persist as I have been. Although the situation has yet to play out and I have yet to have the opportunity to fully deploy his advice, I know it will be the best approach when the time comes.

Hi Steven,
He called me and I said to himm what you said I should say (that it’s been fun, but not in my best interest). Then, he told me I was being immature and emotional. He thinks I am putting up a wall.
I’ll admit, I have been more emotional lately (crying), but being told we are exclusive — and hanging out once or twice a week and talking on the phone daily — BUT not girlfriend/boyfriend … just doesn’t add up. And, it hurts my feelings — especially since he will be upset if I put a pic up with another guy in it on my Facebook page.
He told me to think about what I am saying (that I don’t want to see him) and to sleep on it and talk to him tomorrow.
There is more to the story (he hooked up with my business partner a couple of times last year, but nothing serious … so, I tried not to talk to him on the tel or have him over around her — out of respect for her), and, I dated one of his more successful friends (professional sports player), so there has been some weirdness there.
I know I am not perfect, but I do feel like it is a lack of respect for him to say we are not serious when I am sleeping with him.
Anyway — thank you for your advice. I’ll call back soon.
I feel like he is not getting what I am saying and I really don’t think he knows what a mature relationship really is. Staying over nightl might be fun, but it shouldn’t be the make — or break — of a relationship.

I am a good friend to people, but recently I felt like I wanted to retreat and take some time out for me, and just think through my own issues without always being there for others. Talking with Steve felt like I was talking to a good friend, except that it was all about only my issues! He was empathetic and asked me good questions which made me feel that I wanted to open up more about my situation. He also offered a good insight from his past relationship that gave me more understanding of what I might be getting into if I opted for a relationship with the man for whom I have feelings. My boyfriend had gained so much weight that I am not attracted to him anymore and I have really struggled with how to talk to him about such a sensitive subject.
