Everyone wants to be happy. In fact the Declaration of Independence gives Americans the right to pursue happiness. It is not guaranteed, but we can chart our own path to joy. At times when our work becomes overwhelming, or in this economy underwhelming, we may feel stressed and unable to rise to the level of cheerful delight. However we all know people that no matter the circumstances always seem to have a smile on their face and a joie de vivre. How do they get there and how can we achieve this same satisfaction in our days and allow this feeling to spill over into the work we do? Happy people have three qualities that other people don’t have: they know it, they show it and they grow it.

Two Ways to Stop Stressing and Stay Positive

Imagine constantly trying to do something you’re not very good at, something that does not utilize your best strengths. Day after day, you struggle through. You might improve over time and learn skills you didn’t have before, but because the activity is not a core strength, you’ll expend a lot of time and energy only to meet with mediocre results at best. Like success author Jack Canfield says, it’s like driving a car with the emergency brake on.

But what if you decided to take that energy and use it to build on your strengths, something that is more natural for you? Imagine how far that might take you. Right now much of the world is watching the Olympics, and you can bet that the people who accept the gold on that podium know the benefits of capitalizing on their strengths.

You can benefit from the very same mindset. Make a decision now to understand your strengths, and then endeavor to use them, improve upon them, and benefit from them even more. Release the emergency brake!

Here are two things you can do right now to stop stressing and stay positive:

Gordon Simmons and Tracy Brown, started Happiness Inside because they truly believe that when people turn their awareness inward, they can begin to discover how to become happier. And I agree! Just like getting fit is no mystery, getting happier isn’t really complicated either. And yet, both can be difficult if you don’t have support, knowledge, drive, and a set of tools you can use to accomplish the job. So they started www.HappinessInside.com Because they know that when you are happier, so are your friends and family – and even their friends and family. What if we could get millions of people focusing on increasing their happiness? What wonderful ripple effect could be created in the world? They are our latest guest bloggers here at StopStressingNow.Com and It’s with great pleasure that I introduce to you…

Am I happy?

January 15, 2010 by

I have spent many years researching happiness. What is it? How does it come to be? Why aren’t we all happy? Aren’t we each born that way? What happens in between then and now? What I am getting at is that none of us actually wake up in the morning and sit on the edge of our beds and try and figure out how to have the most miserable day possible. Which would lead me to believe that we each have an innate deep seeded desire to be happy.

However, happiness is such a vague word. The word itself never really satisfied my desire to know what it is. Most people when embarking on a search for happiness begin their search by looking to the outside. They look for “what” will make them happy. “Who” will make them happy. They search for security falsely believing that the arm of another person next to them will provide them happiness. We believe that if somehow we were able to “gather” the right combination of “things” that we could find happiness in that. Not realizing that we are actually dooming ourselves before we even begin to fail in our quest.
