The Power of Positive Thought

Is There An App For That?
Tools to Help You Find Your Authentic Self

It seems now, more than ever, finding tools to manage stress levels and achieve inner peace is essential. Our busy lifestyles often require us to rebalance by finding the time for daily affirmations. This, in turn, can help us to remain focused, positive and productive. Pressures from work and family life can all add up. Whether you’re a business person, stay-at-home parent or a retiree, we all need a way to relax and recharge.

How can apps be used as spiritual tools? There are a number of options available for your iPhone or iPod Touch. The formats vary from card decks to perpetual calendars and spoken word apps. One advantage to apps is that you can conveniently take all of them with you at all times. Often, you can share single card affirmations by email with family and friends. Take for instance the scenario of a friend who may need your help. Whip out your iPhone, find the right card/message and then send them an affirmation to show your support and encouragement.

How To Find Your Wisdom

We are so much more than just our bodies, our brains, our fingers and toes. We are spiritual beings living in a physical vessel that needs maintenance and the occasional tune up. We wouldn’t think of driving our car without ever changing the oil. We can’t drive it anywhere without the proper gas in our tanks. So why don’t we feel the same way about our bodies? Our mind and our spirit is contained within this amazing vessel we travel around in. Yet we seem to ignore what it has to say to us. It’s constantly communicating with us, everyday, every minute, every second.

Moving Beyond “Wishing” and “Waiting”

“Hopefully, things will get better in the future.”

Have you ever heard these words? Have you ever thought them? Have you ever said them?

Chances are, in one variation or another, you have.

Wishing and waiting for events to change and for our world to get better during cloudy moments is just human nature.

The “wishing for things to change” part?

That’s fine.

The “waiting for things to change” part?

Well, I don’t like that so much.

“Waiting for change” is passive. Waiting for a sign, for direction, for the go-ahead from a boss, friend, the government, whoever…it often leads to just more darn waiting. When we base our goals and future on someone else’s “Let’s see what happens” or “I’ll get back to you” agenda, we may end up waiting for the rest of our lives.

Excuses and Taking the Easy Road

“I’ll do it tomorrow.”

I’ve said it in my life. A lot.

“I’m tired…it can wait.”

Yeah…I’ve liked that one a few times, too.

“Oh…what’s one more day?”

That’s a good one, too, isn’t it?

Excuses.

They make us feel better for a moment, but get too used to using them and they can wage war on our goals and success. Excuses chain us to the world of mediocrity and eliminate our chance to experience uncommon results.

Forever.

How To Be An Optimist

May 28, 2010 by

Personally, I have always strive to see the glass completely full. As I see it, it’s half full with wine and half full of air! But not everyone is that way.

With cherry blossoms blooming, baseball season starting, and the stock market hovering near 11,000, it’s impossible not to feel a little extra spring in your step. Heck, even our President is beaming with the passage of health reform and hints of job growth. So, perhaps this is as good a time as any to revel in optimism or, at least, nurture positive-thinking if you’re a glass-half-empty kind of person.

Need more convincing?

A recent study published in Psychological Science found that those with more optimistic attitudes had better-functioning immune systems which, in turn, helped them ward off illnesses. Yet far too many of us assume that optimism is an inborn trait bestowed on a lucky few. That’s a completely wrong assumption, says a top professor of psychology at University Of Nevada Las Vegas.

Can people learn to be optimists?

The answer is an indisputable YES,” says the professor.

A Quick Depression Quiz

Are you depressed?

Do you feel down?

Did you know that: 25 percent of adults will have a major depressive episode at some point?

It’s just a part of life. It’s human nature.

However, most people don’t realize that depression is bad for your heart health, memory and more.
With all of the economic troubles in the world today, sadly TV commercials for every antidepressant known to man have become a part of our modern culture. In a recent study, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention looked at 2.4 billion drugs prescribed in visits to doctors and hospitals in 2005.

Of those, 118 million were for antidepressants.

Why?
